British grenades
Hello, picked up these two grenades at the Thetford Militaria fair today. The mills no.36 is particularly nice as it is in mint condition, and dated 44. This no.69 bakelite grenade was originally a white painted training version and is missing the arming tape. Its dated 40. Any comments welcome. Doug

Nice ones Douglas! I'm missing a nice British Mills 36 grenade from my collection. Don't see them that often over here.

A nice pair of grenades. I remember using some 1939-dated Mills bombs on the ranges in France back in 1970. The problem with the Mills was that the killing distance was greater than the throwing distance.
Don't know anything about the bakelite ones Doug but you can never have enough Mills'. I was thinking of going to Thetford but didn't fancy the drive, should have gone I reckon.

The red crosses painted on the grenade showed it was waterproofed and sealed for use in the Tropics.
The Green band indicated the HE filling, Baratol, TNT, Trotyl or Amatol.

Nice Grenades...I think the No69 is an interesting one with the way it works...still trying to find an original Allways fuze tape for mine.
By the way, did you see that full box of Training Mills grenades?...£3,000 was a bit beyond me!
Thanks for these comments. NCA, yes the box of training grenades was one of the most over priced things I have ever seen.
