    Default British WWII Bag?

    Hi

This may be my first WWII item.... or at least its around those days…. I’m not an expert on militaria stuff.. so I hope you can help me

I bought this bag in a flea market in Mexico City, the guy that sold it to me didn’t say anything about WWII, but he said that it was British, I believed him with reserves… so I got home and researched a little bit on the internet… based on the brand marked on the snaps which is Newy Brothers… and in fact it was a manufacturers of buttons, hooks and eyes in Birmingham. I found this at: Hermes throughout the ages - Page 3 - PurseForum.

“Apparently "Newey Bros Ltd" existed in Birmingham England until 1934”.

“Apparently Newey were taken over by a company called Prym and as Prym Newey continued to manufacture "haberdashery and lingerie accessories" in England until the factory closed in 2001. Prym Newey Malaysia still exists but I don't know how much Newey Bros info they would have. Older Newey Bros archives are held in Birmingham city museum. Newey manufactured fastenings for specialised military clothing in WWII (airborne forces etc.) Irritatingly I can't find any zipper info.”

I noticed that in the front fastener is written: AG468 NB1943.

So may be it’s a WWII item….. so what’s your opinion????????

As well I noticed that it still has….. like… “folding marks” or “reference marks” from the manufacturing process.. I don’t know…… I found that weird…. Take a look at pictures . What do you think??….

And my final concern… it has a hole at the top and I think it will get bigger…so I’m thinking about iron a vinyl patch in the inside… check the pics…. Should I?

Do you have any reference? … It would be great if you can give me more information about this bag….. it may not be a valuable item… but its my first one…and I got it for 16 USD…..

    Thanks in advance.

Hi, Panzer45 - Welcome to the Forum !

This is a WWII British Lightweight gas mask bag/satchel. It is not unusual to see
reference or alignment markings printed on web/canvas kit.

ps - these hold CD 'jewel' cases nicely.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

Hi, and welcome to the forum from me too.

    Mine can be seen here:

    British Lightweight respirator

These are still common items. But they will slowly dry up in supply like all good WW2 items.

Some of the associated items which go with it can be seen in my thread here:

    British Anti gas items

    Cheers, Ade.

    Hi guys,

Well thanks four your answer, you are quick!!!!

Is good to know that its an authentic WWII item.

I just have the doubt about the hole, should I fix it or not? I’m afraid its going to get bigger. I thought about iron heat transfer vinyl at the inside.. the vinyl would melt down… so it would hold all the tissue in place… or maybe I shouldn’t… I don’t want to spoil it… but I don’t want a bigger hole on it.

Don't worry about the little hole - it should remain as is unless you
are going to heavily use or abuse this. If it really bothers you,
sew a couple of small stitches across.........!

    Steve.
