I have a similar one-believe it may be a vehicle canteen for crews-the fact that it's marked 'US' says volumes about it being GI!
MY NEW KNOWLEDGE FOR THIS DAY:
It seems that an "US" mark on an olive- drab item, is NOT a guarantee for that it is a US-military-issued item..
Even thou i thought that the Army had some sort of "exclusivity" on that "mark".
