Markings on a Kit bag.

Article about: Ive just bought an old army kit bag and painted on the side along with some service numbers are the numbers 51/1.Does anybody know what they represent?The kit bag is either black or very dar

    Ive just bought an old army kit bag and painted on the side along with some service numbers are the numbers 51/1.Does anybody know what they represent?The kit bag is either black or very dark navy.Ill put a picture up later.Thanks.

    It's hard to say without a picture, but the 51/1 could be a serial number for the unit. If it is, it would be a Canadian unit, all of which had the /1 suffix.

    Here are the pictures.Could it be 51st Highland division?As you can see there are two different names on it.There is a makers stamp but this is very faded.

    Assuming it is ww2 or earlier, it's a Grenadier Guards number... so probably not 51st Div.
