I think that is a rear pre-war version filter

Its a commercial filter, this pattern of respirator was made by many manufacturers who also fitted their own filters in some cases. This particular one is a Puretha General Service Respirator made by Siebe Gorman, its intended for civilians who had an extra bit of cash in their pocket which they could use to buy something a lot better than the government issued General Civilian Respirator. The label should have some writing on it stating "for use in known war gases and smokes".
