Question Need Help in this p59 box

Hello dear collector, im planning to buy this p59 box. The inscription said "P59 III MPB 1944 (?) " . I know its already been tampered but still i so want to buy this.
Anyway my question is, what's the mean of III and MPB in here? Is this a mortar container? Or an artillery shell container? Or bullets container?
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the input gentlemen.
I heard the dutch military and maybe the british-indian army used the 25 pdr in here during 1945-50. I guess this box was once used by them.
Anyone know the mean of MPB in here?
