    Hi guys,

I have been away on vacation for the past few days in North Carolina. I always find good stuff when I go home. My finds over the weekend included a nice Navy jumper, a boxed and dated National Defense medal, a 1918 2nd assistant BAR cartridge belt, a named 1942 canteen and cover in great condition, and a rather large book that details every WWII veteran from the county where my family is from. I only spent $35. Gotta love flea markets.

Here is the belt and canteen. The cover seems to have a maker or something stitched or stamped into it. Am I crazy or is it actually a maker's mark?

Thanks Tom! I should clarify though, that these were found separately. Only the canteen is named.

A quick search of his name at the archives site brings up two potential matches. One of them, an Albert Balik, was sent to the Philippines in 1940. The other man, Andrew Balik, was drafted in 1941 before Pearl Harbor. I hate that there are two matches.

Hey Mo - Lol, you almost did as well as Rich usually does !

Can't beat the price though. It's like getting the canteen,
    medal and jumper for free.........!
    Regards,

    Steve.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Yea, the canteen was what I was the most excited about. Early covers in this kind of condition are a little more difficult to come by. A WWI BAR belt isn't all too common either, from what I hear. Does 9-1918 mean September of 1918?

I would like to start a thread on the book I found to be dedicated to the member of my family who served in WWII. My great grandfather is listed in it, although there are only a couple of sentences about him. All I know is that he was drafted in June of 1942 and served with the Merchant Marines.

One of these days I will also hit up the Waterford flea market. I have found all sorts of things there.
