Right sealing filter with the hose?

Article about: Hi mates.I just found this nice Mk IV gas mask.I am wondering if the hose was sealed right to the filter with this material i hasn't seen before.Any help welcome.Many thanks(i am asking for

    Usually, they are sealed with a wire clip over the material-such as you can see on the upper fitting to the mask itself. This one does look period, though, so I would not be too concerned about it.

    I think that from the late 1942 the Brits started to use this method
