Royal Navy Action ration tin

Another one from my collection.

A small (3 inch x 2 inch) late war Naval Action Ration tin in the dark green and grey lettering style introduced for rations packs issued in 1944/45.

This tin contained boiled sweets.

Maker marked "MB 6" for the Metal Box Co.

Hi Ade, I hate to sound stupid, but I'll ask anyway. What are boiled sweets?

Hi Jay, no such thing as a stupid question.

I think they are what you would call in the States a "Hard Candy"? Usually a hard, coloured, fruit flavoured sweet, individually wrapped in a cellophane wrapper.

They were to give fatigued servicemen a much needed energy boost.

It was Mars Bars when I was in the Army

I bet you remember the ration packs from the 1980's with Rolos etc too. I wish I had kept some of these, but I eat them!

Comes in handy having a son serving in the army. He saves any ration packs that he gets for me because he knows that I love them and if I am out for the day on the motorbike, I tend to throw a few bits and pieces in the top box for the day. And I also remember the Rat-Packs from the 1980's........contents good, weight, especially when carrying 3 or 4 of them, NOT so good! Especially when you are an infantry specialist with shedloads of extra kit to carry as well!

God, I miss those days! LOL
