Bought this today on a visit to the Diff, dug from a rubbish dump in Tremorfa, Cardiff.

Makes you wonder how such as this ended up there, dated November 1935, nicely maker marked.

According to the web this maker mark was not used before 1946, so that website needs to update its page on Grindley as the 11.35 is well known as being the date for this maker.

Not strictly military but possibly bought to blighty by an Aussie during WWII.

Not a common one over here I think mate. Maybe one of the Aussie members will notice and chip in later.

    "Chip in"? Groan (LOL).

Maybe never left England for one reason or another? Unusual style of crown.
    Good score Jerry.

SA would have had a 'State House' in London, a left over from when the separate colonies had their own representation to the colonial power-WA still has one there-may have come from there as it's a bit of a stretch to see a digger taking such a thing all the way to the UK.

Thanks Guys. Somewhat of an enigma it will remain, but then again an unissued item perhaps later sold as a second is more likely.

Still cool to see it dug in Cardiff and goes nicely with my china collection.
