Default US dog tag set - how to research??

    Hi all,

I found this dog tag set ( with chains and religious medallion ) in a drawer that I had forgotten about.

It is a late war tag ( well, post 1942 ) without next of kin info and his tetanus shot was in '43.

    Durst, Frank A. 0-2074361 T43 44 A ( P = Protestant )

I would like to find out more of the individual's service record if I can. The only Frank A. Durst I can find was from Ohio County, West Virginia and enlisted on October 1st, 1942. He is shown as being in the Philippine Scouts ( which piques my interest further ) but his tag starts with a zero - which I have believed was for officers. I have read there WERE American officers leading the scouts .....

    Any ideas experts???
    Thanks in anticipation, Dan

Have you tried NARA - AAD - Page not found

I've been told that ancestry.com is a good place as well.

Hi! I'm a little late in finding this post, but Frank Durst is my grandfather. Thank you so much for posting this. I would love to get in touch with you!

    Arthur,

If you so desire to continue to research your grandfather, here is a tutorial that I did that takes you through the process of obtaining records through the National Archives Records Administration (NARA).
