US Gas mask help?

When i was at a antique store i found this gas mask and have no clue if it is even military related i am guessing for mine work so i had no idea were to post this. It has markings of Mask Mine safety appliance pittsburg, PA. Patented Nov 1 1921.

MSA made M1 Helmet liners during WWII... Not sure if this mask is military or mining issue.

MSA also made gas masks for allied troops during WW2, but judging by the shape of the lenses, this looks like a gas mask to be used by people working in mines in case the hazardous gas levels go too high. I might be forgetting things, but it seems that its missing a part from the front.

MSA being a US company it must be mining or other non-miliatary used gas mask as it is not US Military. Very cool looking.
