What might this be?
I bought this at a flea market a couple years back and now I am sitting here wondering what on earth it is. I hadn't found anything at that fleamarket so I decided to drag home one this that looked like it might have been military/ww2 era. You can attach straps to it so you can carry it on your back, could it perhaps be a Gas can or something?

It might help if you cleaned the cap slightly , that might give us some type of clue, not even sure if its military

as far as i recall i have seen one of this odd things sold as ww1 dutch tropical wather can, but thats all i know
