What was this old container used for . 1937 impressed ?

Its a ammo box we still have some of these boxes in use now but i have forgot what is in them

I have one just like this. Mine is marked as a Royal Navy box for 40mm ammo. Hope this helps.

Edit: I apologise, I was hasty in making this post. I have just dug mine out (it was buried under a pile of stuff). It is the same as yours except dated 1940, bears the remains of a Naval Inspection Department label in the lid, and is actually marked up for 2pdr ammunition. Cheers.
