If 59 denotes a year it would be more post Korea issue equipment.

Yes, it sure would, but I know that sometimes and wierdly the letter denotes the year instead,
like with berets etc, a letter signifies an acceptance year.
just wondered if this was the case for other equipment??

Could the W 59 be an inspectors stamp? Is the mark factory stamped or hand stamped? W 59 maybe just the code for the inspector?

Inspectors used wood stamps too (Eg: On the entrenching tool handles). If its very small and a bit crooked then I would guess an inspectors stamp.

It looks exactly the same as mine which is dated 1941 on the canvas part.I've never looked on the wooden frame for markings...These things were for the use of Officers and were private purchase.I see the bedroll has an RAF mans name on, so yes that would have been used with this bed.
W59 sounds like an inspection mark to me as well.Nice find for £4!!

its too big to display and should be going to someone who will appreciate it or use it for reenactments etc.
