Contact your local authorities if it's legal or not. I personally would not touch live ammo from the war with a 30 foot pole, that stuff if volatile, and I've seen (in my neighbourhood) a 3 houses leveled by unstable old explosives. If it's anything larger than a rifle round, keep it far far away from anything or anyone you love.

Alright, well I have some information but this is coming from my dad who while trying to read off the letter/numbers to me was saying he couldn't see them. Hes far sighted. He is also a no computer/cell phone/digital camera kind of a guy.
I will be over his place taking pictures Saturday and will post them but in the mean time if anyone can help me make sense of what he read off to me over the phone. Here goes:
12 Bullets around 4" long in clip SL43
    5 or 6" long M50 aluminum tip?
9 or 10" long chipped green paint (couldnt find any markings)
    4" long AZ150
and a knife was also in the ammo box USM8

The scabbard is likely marked M8, the knife/bayonet is marked elsewhere on the blade or cross guard.

The rounds might include rifle rounds, 50 cal shells, and possibly 20mm or other AA rounds. Still a hard call without pictures.

Here are the photos of everything we got at the yard sale military related. Any help or comments on what I have would be great. I especially need info on the ammo. As you can see the large 10 inch rounds say dummy so I assume they are definately safe. What about the other stuff photographed. Is the knife rare or common? Again, thanks for all help. I was going to re-sell these items but want make sure they are legal and or safe. Sorry for all the pictures, because they are round I wanted to be sure to get writing all the way around each.

The largest shell -the 37mm has been drilled out and has no explosives in the head-it is a dummy round and is perfectly fine. The 20mm's heads look like they have been opened and are likely empty. The smaller rifle sized rounds are still live, but not dangerous(no more so than any other normal bullet). The gem of the lot is, of course, the WWII M-8 Fighting knife in it's original sheath. It is certainly collectable.

    Yeah,
The 50 BMG rounds are live and look to be Raufoss rounds and a mix of some AP rounds. The M3 knife is a nice find and looks like it has a very decent shot at a restore. All in all, not a bad find at all.

These are all ok to own. The larger rounds are cool and make neat displays. I never find this kind of stuff at yard sales.
