You know pondboss, now that you mention it, I don't think I have ever seen any pictures attributed to battle between Japanese and Russian forces in the late 1930's. I would love to see some as well. Some must exist somewhere.

Hi all, I'm new to the forum, have been reading about & collecting Red Army for many years. Alvin Coox's famous book "Nomanhan" has 2 photo sections in it, only photos from the 1939 border clash at Khalkin River I've seen anywhere. As you probably know, G. Zhukov was the commander of Red Army forces in this mini-war, many historians say his posting to this remote region likely saved him from being purged, as well as the fact that he gave the IJA a severe drubbing (18,000 casualties) which brought him favor from I. Stalin. After Barbarossa began, Stalin found him to be the only general who seemed effective.
Very nice photo of the 36 Helmet in wear with various styles of camoflage !

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Hitler should have taken note of what happened at Khalkin Gol before launching Barbarossa.
