Soldier Book dated December 18th, 1944 of Private Eduardis Igno Yukna, born 1913, a Lithuanian, 4th grade education, a late arrival to the war, 31 years old at the time of his deployment in September 1944.

Cursory research reveals he was a former machine gunner at the time of his being awarded a Combat Service Medal for wounds. The citation is dated September 7th, 1945 for his service with with the 57th Rifle Regiment, 1st Rifle Division, 4th Ukrainian Front. Interestingly the citation was signed by a Senior Lieutenant Zapletin in the Birzhaisk Military Commissariat, the local Communist Party Secretary Gripunas, and the Military Commissar of Lithuania SSR, Major-General Smirnov.

Private Yukna Eduardis Igno being a machine gunner 57th Rifle Regiment, 1st Rifle Division, 4th Ukrainian Front took an active part in the battles with the German invaders and in the battles during the liberation of Czechoslovakia and was seriously wounded in his left leg. As a result of injury, suffered significant restriction of movement in the knee and ankle joints. He is currently working on his farm.

For his active participation on the fronts of the Patriotic War and the serious wound received is worthy of the Medal "For Combat Service".

Brilliant, thanks yet again for your help with these - the information you've given on the 3 books has been most interesting, I can see myself being tempted to pick up a few more

    Thanks

    Alistair
