Very good items, good to see them. The only POW related items I have are a medal and some copies of associated paperwork to a WWI POW from the RWF.

    Nice thread!
My specialisation is prisoner items, variating from concentration camps to Jap camps to POW camps.
Please find a large range of things on my blog: Achter prikkeldraad

PS if you want to see only POW stuff, search for stalag or oflag in de "Zoek" bar.

An interesting newspaper dated 30 June 1944. Called MARKING TIME it was produced by and for British escaped prisoners of war in Switzerland. Not surprisingly it is full of adverts for watches! There is an article about the execution of the Great Escape PoW's. The newspaper is in broadsheet format.
(Apologies for the order of the photos - done on my iPhone!)

A P.o.W tag from Stalag VIII b and a smaller unusual triangular tag. I have seen reference to these tags being for dogs, however, it would appear that it is in fact an ID tag from the P.o.W field hospital (Lazaret VIIIB). I assume these were either given to patients to confirm that they were resident in the hospital or P.o.W's who were working in the hospital.

I believe that this is a small badge/token given to members of the public for donating to help P.o.W's. it is about the size of a postage stamp

There can't be many of these about! A P.o.W X-ray

The items relate to a prisoner of war camp built to provide labour for the hydro power plants at Lavamund and schwabeck. The two photos show the Lavamund damn under construction and the Schwabeck camp. This area was in a region where there was T.B. in cattle and due to fears of an impending visit by the International Red Cross X-rays were conducted

This map was produced by The Red Cross and St John War Organisation and shows all of the P.o.W camps across Germany, Poland and Italy. It is in poor condition, however, has been used and has a camp in Italy and a camp in Germany marked on it in pencil. Unfortunately Stalag Luft III is right on a crease/rip

Not technically WW2 (as denoted by the Queens crown) but it is a badge for the ‘Army POW Escape Club’ (The RAF having there own club, the Royal Air Forces Escaping Society). The club was originally created after WW2 and named the ‘Escape Club’. This later changed to the ‘Army Escape Club’ and then to the ‘Army POW Escape Club’. It’s members included any former British Army POW who had escaped from ‘secure enemy custody’ in any theatre of war (including WW1). Their membership peaked at 165 in 1993 so I assume that this is a relatively rare badge. The badge is 6.5cm in height so relatively small.

    There is more information here:

Not mine unfortunately, but belongs to one of my wife’s customers who brought it in for me to see.
The photograph is of her father who was shot down in 1943 and ended up as a P.o.W in Germany. The photograph appears to be a period enlarged version of his I.D. photo taken by the Germans. The little dog was his mascot and went on every flying mission with him and remained with him throughout his captivity. He was also awarded a gold ‘Caterpillar Club caterpillar pin’ which his son has so I was unable to see it.
