hiding in Holland then serving abroad after the war...

Hi all,

Thought of sharing this unique set of very interesting war time and post-war related material.

The holder, a young Jewish woman, hid in Holland during the war with fake papers. After the war she assisted the liberating allies with translation and then, in 1946, joined the Dutch foreign service, being stationed, as a secretary, first in China, then moving to occupied Japan for about a year. She served her country also in Tangier and France as well.
Later, she immigrated to Israel.

Sadly, after she passed away, all her papers and photos where thrown away to the trash, but where luckily saved.

I added a small smaple of her material...

So Molly van den Hoop lived in Amsterdam during the war as Madeleine van den Hevelkereke? Her parents have a real jewish name; Konijn. She has married a non-jewish husband looking at her name van den Hoop. The 'persoonsbewijs' looks real, but not with her correct name. So it was stolen and they changed the photograph, or it is a false document. I wonder if her finger print from the post war document matches the finger print of the war time persoonsbewijs...

Just checked the list of jewish victims of the holocaust from Holland, with the name Konijn. From Amsterdam there are 5 matches with that name, all died in Sobibor in 1943, but none match the names of this ladies parents.

This is the only war time document I have of her. Seems from April 1945 until later in 1945 she was attached to the Canadians or British as an interpreter.
Later, she joined the foreign service...how can one check her fingerprints?

Well you have the 'persoonsbewijs' with her picture, but other name that was issued in 1941. That has a set of finger prints on it. Than you have the Burger Identiteitskaart from 1945, on her real name and again with a finger print.
It would be interesting to see if those match. If they match than the ressistance has made her a false ID with an other name on it, but with her picture and prints. If they don't match the ID is real, but stolen and they put her picture on it. Both happend.

Here is another item used in occupied Holland.
I am interested to learn more abou the holder: according to his family he was working for the Dutch underground and asisted Jews in hiding.
Is there a way to find out if he was an underground member?

Well the documents above dont mention anything about that, just that he worked for the Germans.
