Thanks Ade. That particular Firefly had just accounted for a Panther that was lurking in the town square. The guy standing front right was its commander, Sgt John Sear. We think the man next to him was the gunner. Here's a rather grainy image of the destroyed tank (left), and the same scene today:

Excellent "Then & Now" shot. I like these. The place has barely changed.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Ade,

The Hussars and 3 RTR took everyone by surprise at the speed of their advance. The town was taken without the usual destruction. There had been no time to evacuate the kids which is why they appear on the following, as Sgt Sear is suitably rewarded. The second picture shows the two 'girls' today on either side of Sgt Sear's son:

This is an original, period colored photo of my Grandfather who was assigned to the Recruitment and Induction Station in Harrisburg, PA, due to a medical condition that kept him from going to Europe with his unit. He was forced to sit out the war while sending others to the war, and hearing of his own unit buddies being wounded and killed in Europe. He was rather upset about that the rest of his life, I suppse a case of survivor's guilt. Also, I posted a poem I think you all will get a chuckle from. He and the other's at the Induction Station wrote it about a Sergeant being shipped out. I have more photos of him and friends, I will post as I dig them up.
