Nice looking piece for sure. I must admit it's a bit out of my "area" too but it certainly does appear to be a British Royal Navy 1988 Boarding Pike though one has to be so careful with this area of antique weaponry as fakes of excellent quality really do abound.
That said, this one does look the part for sure and the wood seems right too (Ash?).
Such a thing seems odd until you realise that it is not an offensive weapon for use during the boarding of an enemy vessel as many tend to assume. Rather it is a defensive weapon used to repel boarders. They were used by the same sailors who also carried the boarding axe which wasn't primarily a weapon at all (though it made a good one) but was for "digging out" hot shot from planking etc and the removal of the tangled and damaged rigging cut by enemy fire.
And we think battle with modern firearms is scary
Let us know when you have a definitive answer.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature with no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
Thanks Guys!!
