British bayo ?

Picked this up at a local flea market very pitted and some rust the guy who sold it says its british any one have any idea or type, although it is in poor condition it now has a new home to RIP, (rot in peace)
ps i gave him a tenner for it

Might be Canadian , Ross Rifle I think . But I'm not really a bayonet guy .

What you have is a British MKI Type 2 Lee-Metford Pattern 1888 Bayonet. Go to this website and you will see Lee-Metford Pattern 1888 Bayonets - Mark I to III all. In its present condition I’d have no idea what it is worth, but for a tenner not too shabby either.

Scabbards appear to be some what difficult to obtain, thanks for the link did not realise just how old these are plus learned that back to back R `s meant the bayo was sold out of service.

Sometimes, there’s a wealth of information to be found on British weapons and blades. Unit(s) of assignment, other members of the Commonwealth’s acceptance stamps, sold out of service stamps, inspection stamps/proofs, and armorer’s modification dates etc. It gets pretty busy (at times) on some of their older pieces.

In the case of P1888 Bayos, those that are unit marked to British Units that served in the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899–1902), typically bring a seller’s premium.
