It has a 'Mameluke' appearance to it which originates from the Persian Empire.
This was a type of sword favored by the 1st Duke of Wellington, who made
it fashionable in the late 1700's, thus it became the basis for the British
Army's regulation 'General Officers' sabre in the 1800's. This style
was also adopted by the USMC.

1831 pattern British General Officers Ivory Hilted Scimitar

It's possible that the blade was re-fitted with a new hilt a long time ago
because of the very crude crossguard, although the exposed wood grip
looks to be quite old and appropriately aged, which seems original to
the blade, but I am unsure of it's actual age - swords like this have
been produced in India for export and as souvenirs
    for many years........

    Steve.

    I agree with Steve!
To me the blade is European and refited by locals. Possibly a war trofee that was modified.

Where I come from, we call it a Frankensword. Weird, bizarro and probably has parts used on two to three real swords at one or another. If it could only talk.
