Can you identify this knife?

Article about: Found this knife after my grandfather died. He fought in WWII and Korea. So perhaps it is American, European, or Korean. Can you identify it? Any help is appreciated.

    Yes, I will keep the knife, and have no intention of selling. The question of value was only for my curiosity.

    I also wondered what the 'hook' on the crossguard was for. Thank you for providing more information on this.
