Kinfolk v44 pattern

This is a kinfolks copy of a No 18 Collins legitumus survival knife. This particular example was recovered from a burned b24 bomber near Port Moresby New Guinea. A new sheath was made and it was rehandled and brought back by a member of my boyhood church. He gave it to me before he passed on to the next world.

I like these V44s. They are a very nasty looking knife.
It is nice to have one with a history behind it.

Nice V44's. A bit over-the-top as far as fighting
knives go, but still very cool.........!

I agree. These were survival machetes but some were
carried as fighters. But I bet they were just carried and
seldom actually used. They are way to heavy and
clumsy to be a practical fighter. But definitely intimidating
if you had to face someone waving one at you.

Here a are a few more v44s....A kinfolks, a rare western, a couple of Collins...once of which has a second battalions marking and initials JET on it, it shows heavy use and you cant see it but is separating from the handle. These green horn handles are a german cow horn imported in the 1930s for use...it separated in jungle conditions so the bakelite black handles were used, there is a case xx version in here as well

Nice group.
The green horn handled ones are hard to find
and command a good price when they do turn up.

Here are some photos of other green horn knives...some of these are very very early and show serial numbers and USMC markings from before the Second World War. These are not the Raider etched markings from the roughly 1000 knives Evans Carlson had etched for his men. You have to look closely for the markings.

Nice. I would love to get my hands on a legitimate
Raider piece. I once owned a Raider stiletto but
had to sell it off many years ago to pay the rent.
