    Default M1905e1 (Converted M1905)

I have an odd looking M1905 that has been converted into an M1 Bayonet. I believe they are called M1905e1s. It is a Utica Cutlery, 1942 and was also Shortened by Utica Cutlery as evident by the UC-MOD stamped on the reverse side. The scabbard has also been converted to an M7 from a M3 Scabbard. I know over all the bayonet is pretty beat up but my question concerns the spear point tip. It is very rough and crudely done. Almost as if done with a hand grinder. Has any one seen this before? If so, what the deal? Any information on this bayonet will be appreciated.

    Thanks, Que

Looks like the tip broke and someone tried to reform it. Forget what the correct length of these should be but a quick measurement would clear that up. Just look at the length of the blade to that of the scabbard.

    Just my guess.

Map, that's my thought also. It is not a full 10" comes in right at 9". My question is when was this done. In the field after it broke, or post war. The rust and pitting seem to be the same in the tip area as it is every where else. Hmmm

the work looks aged to me and similar to the rest of the blade. Doubt anyone would do this to deceive. That said, no way to tell if it is period or done in say 1948 after the son of a vet broke it while throwing it at a tree....lol

So I found and bought an M1 Bayonet at a local surplus store yesterday. I compared it to my 1905e1 posted in this post. To my surprise, not as much of the tip is missing as I originally thought...
