Article about: Hi,the only problom i see is the snap button that was stuck on this knife for a very long time as it might be an esy fix?

    This is the back,.I WAS TOLD FROM THE PERSON I GOT THIS FROM THAT IS NOT A DATE/YEAR??THAT HE WAS IN WW2?

    That's a nice one. It's pretty hard to tell what those numbers mean. The military has a number for everything , the the individual units/troops/platoons throw in their special numbers. Figuring out the numbers is as confusing as a witches riddle.

    Hi Pammy !

    Found your KA-BAR thread ............
    WWII models had 'OLEAN NY' under the KA-BAR logo.
    There was a particular method of attaching the pommel,
    or butt cap to the tang - some were 'peened'
    and others were 'pinned'.

    Your sheath looks a lot like the ones I have that are called
    "current issue" - hard to tell as the backside of it looks more
    like natural, untreated leather, which is the way the WWII models came.

    The modern sheaths have a coating of slick black or brown on the leather
    surfaces, which is a type of water proofing, and this coating is also
    on the handles of newer knives too. Modern sheaths are
    generally thicker as well.

    Leather does not stand up to salt water, or any
    damp environment very well.

    Thanks steve,iam learning as when i bough it from the estate sale the guy was a ww2 vet along with other items he had?never know they dont always tell the truth i dont think they do..but i do thank you for the help.

    HI,I LOOKED THIS UP ON THE INTERNET AND THE BLADE ON WW2 WERE 7 IN AND THEY MADE THEM SHORTER THE MODERN TYP,AS YOU SAID THE BACK LOOKS MORE LIKE THE COLOR AND I SEEN WERE THEY ADDED THE BLACK SO THEY WOULD NOT SHINE AS MUCH..VERY INTERESTING AS YOU LEARN SOMETHING EVERY DAY..SO MAYBE THE AUTION HOUSE JUST BUMED THIS KNIFE UP BECAUSE THE GUY WAS IN WW2?THEN MAYBE IT IS THE DATE 1963-1973? THATS INTERESTING TO KNOW AND YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR HOME WORK AND IAM FOR SURE LEARNING A LOT FOR SURE!!THANKS STEVE FOR EDUCATING ME ON THIS SO I WILL KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR AS I DID SEE ALL KINDS JUST NOT THE ONE WAS POSTED WITH BROWN HANDLE ON THE TOP AND BOTTOM,,THANKS AGAIN ,,,PAMMY
