Re: Need help with this dagger
Tha blade should be 6.75", but only 3 companies made these:
Landers, Frary & Clark 'LF&C', Henry Disston & Sons 'HD&S'
and Oneida 'OCL' plus the French made 'Au Lion'.........

Re: Need help with this dagger
Hi Jim, never seen one marked to Case before. At best this is modified by the owner. I don't think it is any kind of official production, as Steve says, these were only made by a handful of companies.
How is the blade secured to the hilt? I cannot see a pointed nut as usually seen?
The blade fit to the duster is a bit of a concern.
Cheers, Ade.

Re: Need help with this dagger
Hello Ade,
The tang fits into the handle just how far I don,t know.
It is not a very neat fit as you can see a small gap between the blade and the handle on one side.
You are right there is not a nut on the top ithas been removed and is very smooth.
as i said the owner of the shop claimed a regular customer and collector was going to buy it until he brought his own in to compare and said he had the same length of blade on his?????
I informed him i had never seen a blade of that length before.
Regards

Re: Need help with this dagger
Yep, Model 1918 trench knife, however I have read in one of Bernard Levine's books the ones marked CASE XX are fakes.

Re: Need help with this dagger
It is modified with a different blade.

Re: Need help with this dagger
I guessed it was a fake but you can never be sure it was a one off.
Thanks for all the comments.

Re: Need help with this dagger
The handle might be original, but the blade is fake, newer model, and you can see the gap between the blade, and the handle, originals were never that sloppy, or poorly constructed..
