This week I picked up a 1943 Sheffield "fighting knife"
Carved in the leather sheath is the owners name and a call sign "Yankee Tarheel". I did a google search of the name "Howard I. Price" and found he was a P47D Thunderbolt pilot shot down over Germany, captured, and released at the end of the war.
I've tried to contact Lt. Price and his son to no avail, yet. I thought he might like it back, I know I would. Many of that great generation sadly have now passed on. I would be honored to get it back to him or his family. If that doesn't work out I'm sure others would like it for their collection.
I need some advice as to it's value and any other info you might be able to give me. Many of my Google searches have pointed me in the direction of this forum.
Thanks for your assistance and hope you enjoy this story of this WW2 relic as much as I.
Attached are some pics.
