Scabbard Numbers on M1905E1 Bayonet
Hi All,
I have a 10" cut down M1905 bayonet.
Its one of the best pieces I have in my collection anyway .
I was curious as to whether the scabbard is original to the piece ?
Ive always believed it to be so , If someone knows what the scabbard numbers mean would be a great help.
Cheers Rick

never seen numbers on these before, well not on mine anyway.

Could it be the bayonet (or at least the scabbard) was issued with a rifle and the numbers are the rifle serial number. That was the French approach.

I'm with René on this one - Ive never seen that before on one of those bayonet scabbards. These were widely used by US allies post war - might have been added by one of those countries.

First time seeing one serialized here also.
We did supply the Danish army with M1 Garands and bayonets. I know that they put the serial number of the M1 Garand on the Butt stocks. Maybe they added serial numbers to the bayonets they supplied with the Garands.
Just a thought.
I might have to look into.
