    Hello all,

I received this knife today and wanted to share it with this forum. The knife is dated 1917 and appears to have a “Blued” finish. I’ve read that these knives originally had a “Bright” blade finished up until 1917. They were then blued and the scabbard release button was removed to speed up production. This bolo seems to go against the grain because it’s been blued and still retains the scabbard release button. Odd or not?

The only downside to this purchase is that it didn’t come with the scabbard and half of the guard has been broken off. It was very rusty when I got it and took a while to get it in decent shape. It was very inexpensive and I thought it was worth the cost... so I bought it “as is” condition

I took the grips off to inspect the tang and I noticed a piece of paper folded up inside (See pic). I tried googling the name on the paper but with no success. It’s somewhat difficult to decipher... sooo if anybody can make it out please let me know.

What a curious find. I wonder if Greg is still alive?

I was thinking the same thing...

I was able to contact the seller and he told me that he purchased it from a flea market in San Francisco 2-3 months ago. Hopefully, it’s not a stolen piece (Would gladly return it to the rightful owner if that’s the case).

I wonder why he put that paper with his info under the grips.
Is the 1963 a date or his address.

Did you call the number and see if Greg's still there??
I would. At the least you'll get a "Nobody here by that name , Or Greg saying Hi that's me!!!

I can only assume he put it there in case it was lost or stolen.

Ahhhhh thank you for the post... I just figured it out. TNG-2004... old school! I will have my wife call... seems like there’s 3 area codes for that city.

Thanks again for the post... you made me think about this one! Grin

As far as 1963? I’m gonna guess it’s the date... it was written pretty far away from the address.

I believe scabbards are readily available for these knives.

The wife is on it... she’s a facebooker! ... it was like finding a message in a bottle!! She will give him a couple days to respond and then reach out to the grandkids... I will post any updates...

I don’t think the millennials would be able to crack the code! Grin

    Greetings Gents,

Found two newspaper articles on who I believe is the "Greg" in question. IMHO, too many similarities for it not to be the gent mentioned on the note, but never say never.

    Njoy,
