The style is known as the Ketland Eagle pommel.
It is attributed to William Ketland, a gunmaker in Birmingham England.
American blades of this style commonally have a 5 ball hand guard. This one has 7.
I believe it is an English made import between 1805 and 1810.
Thats the best I can do with one photo.
i never knew that, thanks
I did a little more research.
The sword is American.
The 7 ball knuckle guard is a harder to find variation.
Still the same time period. Would have been carried in the War of 1812-14
colt did you buy this . great looking sword. gary
yup, I boughtit , as a model 1820,,,, mabye givin to George Rogers Clark at the end of the war by George Washington,, I believe the sword was given to his great grandson and never surfaced?
Washington was dead by the time that sword would have been manufactured.
It is a very nice sword from the time period. Worthy of any early American sword collection.
things were made before the item was named model 1820, as it was most popular about that time ?
did you see the marine officer sword with Oliver North engraved on the blade in an auction? I think the Marine keeps his sword till death and someone engraved North's name on it to reach $1200... whatch think?
