Default Theater Made stag horn Knife

Picked this up for my son today.

A beast at 17 1/2 inches (45 cm). That said it is very well balanced.

Both the blade and the guard are made out of files/rasps. Nice hefty stag horn grip with brass pins and a nice engraved end cap.

Appears to be engraved SAL near the cross guard.

Date: ????? Not really sure but IMHO pre-WW2 quite possibly WW1 or before.

    Wow Michael,
That's quite a knife. It's impossible to date but ithas a real 1800s
look to it. The blade shape and crossguard look like some of massive
    civil war bowies.

My personal hunting knife is a stag handled piece made from a file.
If you look at it in the right light, you can still make out where it
was stamped "bastard". Makes me wonder why my B-I-L made
    it for me.

Thanks Greg. Glad you enjoyed it.

    My son does!

We won't sharpen it but I'm sure it will hold a great edge. The steel in these files is nice.

Hmmmm...wonder why...maybe he really doesn't like you LoL

That is a nice one. I do like that stag!!!

Your son can carry it and say meet My Pal Sal!!!!!

Files are one of the best metals to make knives out of. Easy, available and a good steel. I've done several myself when I was into making knives. I liked to use a Bastard file. That way I had a pair of Bastard Blades. They have their own box for display.
I just liked the way that sounded when I presented them to folks I was showing!!!
