I was given this short sword some time ago but could never find out much about it. Does anybody know who used it and when. The guy who gave it to me said it was a navy sword. Sword is about 29 1/2 inches long. Thanks for any help. Gary

That is an infantry short sword.

Carried in the first half of the nineteenth century - especially in Europe and Russia.

    In French - sabre briquet.

Yours was made in Germany at Remscheid which was one of the three main edged weapon production centres in Germamy.

The maker looks to be H&R Boker (who are still producing knifes today)

The small letters look like French control markings known as poincons.

Unusual to find the scabbard in such good condition - the leather tends to disintegrate unless well cared for.

The metal loop on the scabbard looks like the French design.

My guess - French from the 1830-50 period.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

    Richie

I'm glad you like the sword. I wonder if Boker still makes this good of a knife? Gary

Hi Richie I just took a look at that site. That Swiss dagger looks very familiar almost like I have seen that design before , and the price what a deal. Gary

Very exotic piece there Gary. I like it. Don't get to see very many in Missouri. I think you need one of those Swiss Daggers, maybe they'll trade you for one of those 1911's.
