Default August M. Oberrecht, Lots of Pictures, Help...

First off sorry for the big pictures and so many of them but we are looking for answers in the pictures. August Merle Oberrecht was my wifes grandfather she never got to meet since he passed before she was born. We appreciate any help and info you can give us thank you.

    1. He was with the 6th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop and was a Technical Sergeant, I cant find any info of his cavalry and what did a Technical Sergeant do?

    2. He also brought back these rings and patches. Any info about them?

    3. Im also trying to find out what all of these awards are and the circle looking patch, also what awards is he missing?

    4. Last but not least this is a top page of about 40 of what looks like a book and im not sure what it is? Im not sure if this was part of his division or what?

Thank you for any help, on my next post I will have random pictures of him and what he brought back.

    Welcome to the forum.

I will move this thread to the Western Allies section where it will likely get the right people looking at it and helping out.

The German pieces I can help with. The two eagles are uniform breast eagles, one for the Heer (Army) and one for the Luftwaffe (Airforce). The circle looking thing appears to be German too, an unused cockade for the sidecap.

The U.S. ribbon bars are, top to bottom:

    • World War II Victory Medal
    • Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (the bronze star devices signify multiple operations, the arrowhead signifies participation in a beach- or airborne landing)
    • Army Good Conduct Medal (also present as the full-size medal and miniature lapel pin for civilian wear)
    • American Campaign Medal

The rings look Japanese so I suggest starting a thread in the Japanese militaria forum here where you will likely get some more folks looking at them.

The ring with the red star is the unit emblem for the 6th Infantry Div...matching the symbol on the above-titled pamphlet...
    cheers, Glenn
