Wow ! Nice find , enrolled 40mins from where is was born.

The tag itself does not look like the usual clay or alloy variation , maybe a unofficial job ?

It looks like a type which was manufactured as a bracelet worn on the wrist. I have seen several private purchase examples made in silver. A friend of mine once dug one up on the Somme which was named to an officer in the Manchester regiment. The officer survived the war. My friend was able to trace his relatives and return it.

Yes, this is half of a bracelet.

Excellent research, the gravestone does say "and our father" so he did have childrens still alive in 1974.
