Default Grandfather Joseph Nicol Bell (KOSB) WW1. Somme. Cap badge.

Evening from the North East of England.

I'm looking for information on my Grandfarther Joseph Nicol Bell . (My Dad's Father)

He served during WWI with the KOSB (King's Own Scottish Borderers) Regiment. My father tells me that he was badly injured in the Battle of the Somme, where he almost lost his leg. He spent many months in hospital.

Sadly I don't have any further details other than the above. I was hoping that someone could run a search perhaps. As I would love to retrace his steps and delve a little deeper.

    All the best, Gillan Bell.

Default Original photograph from 1915. KOSB WW1 (Grandfather Joseph Bell)

Here we have it . Just a lad. My Grandfather Joseph Nicol Bell. Back row - second from the right ( fourth from left ) - A spitting image of my brother! (without the beard) .

Note, 'Mascot - Whisky' the dog, bottom left.
This is priceless. Currently in the possession of my family. It's been a while since I last saw this photo - too young to take notice no doubt . How times have changed.

My Grandfather is stood next to another fellow by the name of Joseph Bell. Founder of Bells Buses. Langholm. - A possible relation.

    Research continues .

Should anyone care to know the names that feature on this photograph , please don't hesitate to get in touch .

All the best . Gillan Bell.
