I have very little info on my grandfathers service in the US army during ww2, minus his medals and a copy of his Honorable Discharge paper, he had passed before i was born, so i never got the chance to meet him. The NARA site is currently down, and ancestry.com is of no help. Ive read that the fire at the St louis office in 1973 destroyed 80% of all army personnel records, making it quite hard to locate documents, but i had read that MANY of these records were on loan to the Vetrans Administration at the time, so its hard to determine which files had been lost.
What interests me is the complete lack of any information regarding the 907th Air Engineering Squadron on the internet, and why would a teletype mechanic posses qualifications for a machine gun and carbine, as opposed to the standard rifle and pistol 'quals?
I appreciate any and all help and information provided!
this is what ive got - photos of his discharge paper (i have the form in the picture), and i shall list everything on the form (by box #)
