Thanks Ade, it was a long wait, but worth it in the end. The biggest surprise, though I should have worked it out was that he was with the 53rd Welsh division for most of his service before and during the first half of the war.
Very interesting stuff Jerry, I am pleased for you !

Was your father in the TA before the war, ? as you know my grandfather was also in the 53rd, he was TA before and after the war, the 53rd Welsh was made up of TA regiments predominantly

Hi Martin, Yes he joined the 53rd Welsh Divisional Signals TA in 1936, but I don't know if he returned to them after the war, I'll have another look at the docs after the rugby finishes.

A good win for Wales , walked away with it in the 2nd half.

Unfortunately his records only show him as part of the Army National reserve TA(N) after the war with his last listed unit in 1946 being 1st L of C Signals.

It also does not list his postwar promotions as he told me he was a WO I when he left.

    Hi Jerry

Yes I really must try and obtain my grandfather’s service records but I am unable to at the moment, I do not have his service number, to cut a long story short my family is a little disjointed and do not get along ! Haha
He was TA before the war; I have pictures of him but am unsure what regiment. I know he was with the 71st Anti-Tank Regiment during the war ( 53rd Welsh ) and after the war in the 50s he was with the TA 4th Battalion Royal Welsh Fusiliers, I have documents saying so, and also my mother says he used to run the social club near Wrexham for the TA.
When you state it took over a year and half for your records to become available, is that because they have to be researched on their end ??
Good luck with it, it’s great to see he was with the 53rd welsh!!

It only took about 9 months, as they sent them to the wrong address and I allowed a long time before I chased them up about them, but they do have to find them out and a lot of people want these records for their relatives these days. I don't think you need his service number, just his DOB, DOD, full name, where was born and stuff like that,it tells you all if you go to the online link. I'll find it for you later, just cooking at the moment.
