    Default tracing my grandfather

    Hi there,
I wonder please if someone can help me?
My grandfather passed away when I was very young so I barely remember him.
As I've grown up and become interested in history, particularly WW2, there are loads of things I would've liked to of asked him about his time in the army.
I've asked my nan but she is 90 and gets confused and doesn't really remember where he served.
She had a photo of him in the desert with a machine gun and also said that she thinks he was at a concentration camp shortly after its liberation.
I'd love to find out where he was during the war and if any member on here could help me I'd be very, very grateful (and my nan would to!)
This is all the information I have on him: Private Carter no.14984884 First Battalion, Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry.
Many thanks for taking the time to read this.
    Regards
    Jay.

Hi Jay, apply for his service records. You can download the forms, you fill then in on your Nan's behalf and get her to sign them. She has to apply as she is nearest next of kin. Plus it is free if your Nan does it:

Ministry of Defence | About Defence | What we do | Personnel | Service Records | Making a Request for Information held on the Personnel Records of Deceased Service Personnel

    Cheers, Ade.
