You might like to start off with some reference books. There are
several on the market that will show all the items that the US
'GI' used and wore - although Mo ( ObKrieger ) is giving you
a very good rundown of stuff.........!

Field gear time. This is the basic setup for a U.S. WWII Army infantryman who carried the M1 Garand. This consisted of the M1923 cartridge belt (the belt with all of the pockets), the first aid pouch, the M1910 and M1942 canteen (basically the same thing), and the M1928 haversack (the backpack-looking thing with the shovel).
The haversack carried all of your personal items as well as your blanket, shovel, and bayonet. This whole setup, by the way, went over the field jacket.
What a soldier wore really depended on what he needed at the time. For combat patrols in reenacting, I wear the whole uniform, with just my cartridge belt, canteen, and first aid pouch. Suspenders were often used, but the belt works just fine without them.
There you have it. This is the average, basic rifleman's setup. Gear up, soldier!
ebay sometime have fakes
I'll do it for him, "thank you Mo, very helpful info!"
He just PM'ed me a 'Thank you.'
Fair enough, well done.
Great breakdown! Thanks Mo!
