Looks to be part of the torsion bar suspension. Finding out such info could be pretty tough I guess. So many records and files etc. being destroyed in bombings and such. Ron

Thank you Martin for these pictures. Your KZF looks beautiful.
Thanks to that , I managed to spot the factory code on my. It's "bek" - I think.(??)
    So all markings are:

    bek K.F.
    27409

    K.F. - kaltefest of course

    Your KZF have number 57274.
I don't think that first Kfz number was 00001, second was 00002, third was 00003 etc, so every number in this digit has its own significance like vin number in cars, but what??

    Pozdrawiam.
    Paul

    PS
Few scrap parts from Panther tank you can see in my topic:

    Hi Paul..
    After asking a few friends.
The number is like a VIN each sight has its own number and each factory has its own number.
But I do not have any info on which numbers apply to which factories.
I will dig deeper, as i do not belive that there was over 57000 of these made.

This sight was used on a wide range of German Tanks.
    K.Z.F.2. Pz.Kpfw. I, Commander's.
    Pz.Kpfw. II, Flamethrower.
    Pz.Kpfw. III, Commander's and Models F to J.
Pz.Kpfw. IV, Tiger and Panther. 7.92 mm M.G. 34. (gimbal and ball mountings).
(thanks for the info Ralph ).

All of my Kzf2s are made by bek.
Some pictures of a sight in the box.
The number "I think" is 41088, but will check at the weekend.

After a closer look of my Kzf, the code can be "bek" or "bck" or "nek".

    Hi Paul

Intresting thread from the WAF, I still have had no luck matching numbers to makers.
It would great if there was a resident expert out there who would chip in here..

I got lucky over the weekend and got some photos from the inside of a Jagdpanther....Fantastic engineering how the sight is put together with the MG15 in the ball mount...
    enjoy

    Hi Paul

The answer to your question..and yep i had loads of help with this ( thank Michael).

When a tank was it arrived from the factory it was sent to a fit out unit. Here it was fitted with all the radio gear, MG’s, sights and any other item that could be removed or replaced. All the fitting that are fitted to the tank are record on a Tank Attachments Card (Panzer Befestigungen Karte). On this is recorded all the parts and part number which are particular to that tank. This was normally kept with the Motor vehicle registration certificate
    (Kraftfahrzengschein).

    Kfz 2...
The five figure number on the sight is like a vin number. So if you can find of the Attachment card you can ID tank which it was fitted to and the unit it was attached.

We can find no pattern in which the numbers were issued to the manufacturers.

    “bpd” = C.P.Goerz Gmbh, Wein
“bek” = Hensoldt Werk für Optik &Mechanik, Inh. Dr Hans Hensoldt, Herborn(Dillkreis).

So to answer your original question.
Yes you can ID tank it was fitted to but only with the Befestigungen Karte.
Not only could you ID the tank and unit but the crew also, which would be interesting.

The tank and unit are known to me.
But find the crew with Kzf number that would be insane...

Thank you Martin for your help. I appreciate it.

    In end:
photos of Kugel with Kzf that I managed to "play" with

    Thanks again for help Martin.

    Pozdrawiam.
