    Met up with a few tank crew veterans in Normandy for the 70th in 2014. Apparently the padre's were instructed to remove remains from brewed up tanks. In extreme cases there would be nothing but fat left in the bottom of the tank

    The horror of it is incomprehensible...

    Yes indeed, you can understand the German troops black humour, they described the Sherman as a "Tommy cooker"!...
