A rare look that I originally thought was a StuG, but our friend has been kind enough to properly identify this AFV.....

Very interesting picture.
I would have to say that it is not a StuG III, the chassis is a Panzer III, but the gun looks to be the 15cm Infantry Howitzer.
The 15cm was mounted on a Panzer III chassis and known as the Sturminfanteriegeschutz 33B, but the superstructure was much higher and it had an enclosed roof, these were only sent to Russia. This picture looks to have been taken in North Africa.
It therefore seems to be a local field modification to mount the 15cm howitzer on a Panzer III chassis, its possible a StuG Ausf D has been used as the basis looking at the side armour, but modified with no roof and angled front corner armour hinged to work with the howitzer.
On closer inspection of the picture the side and front armour look to be a field mod. as well. So not a Stug III, but certainly a modified Panzer III.
Just my thoughts.
Thank You for the Identification, I'll edit the above!
cheers, Glenn
