    Default WH license plate

I wasn't sure if I should post this in the restoration section or here as it is not really equipment per se. ( please move it if you think so ) but recently I bought a nice WH license / number plate and was wondering how I could determine what unit / vehicle it was issued to.

At 450 x 100 it's fairly large so I was thinking truck but really have no idea - it could just have easily been a Sd.kFZ 251

Anyone have any ideas??? and also, what about preservation - some oxalic sparingly applied?

    Cheers, Dan

A little bit of info on pre war issue WH numbers can be found here:

    WWIIdaybyday.com

I think it looks fine as it is. Nice item.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Thanks for the link Ade!
Pre-war and early seems to only have 6 digits - later on they had to go to 7.

Just found a couple of photos on the web that show 7 digit numbers close to mine that funnily enough show a truck and a halftrack!!!!! so it could be off either.

    Cheers, Dan

Actually, pre-war plates had 5 or 6 numbers, and later it was mostly 6. 7 numbers plates are a bit rare.

Hi Charles - wow, how did you work that one out?

A panzer werfer!! and from PZ div 19..... I can just imagine it bombarding the Russians in '44
I think I'll have to find a model of one to display the plate with.

    Thanks for the answer.
