GMC 353 help please

Hi guys this might be a shot in the dark, but i will ask anyway.
A mate of mine has two American GMC 353 trucks, one he is restoring and the other bought mostly restored.
He was wondering if there was anyway of finding out the history of these trucks.
The numbers on one of them is.
Cab number 164498-1
Chassis number CCKW 353 406 983 B2
The bonnet number which he found under the repaint is 4234795
Also in the cab there is a number 5/43 i take it this is the date of manufacture.
As I say there might be no way but i said i would ask for him.

Kinda thought it might be a daft question.
Anyways heres some pictures just in case anyone is doing a search on the forum in the future.
The finished one is the 1943
The second one which is being restored is 1945

I would think General Motors would have records of where they were delivered to US military control, after that the military would have records of where they went but these would probably still be paper or microfiche so no easy way of researching them...
