hi Ade
il post more on monday evening
its a long weakend for us so today im off

hi ian
when did the yanks invade wales ? and more importantly where abouts, the only multinational range area i know of is castlemartin. that's a great job you've got and i have to say you got my attention when you mentioned ww2 armour
i also used to work on m109's at 49 fd ra in lippstadt, they were a2's and a3's some were that old that they had served in vietnam before the british army aquired them. i went to the gulf with 26 fd who were also equipped with 109's , not a bad bit of kit and easy to work on.
all the best

its more foewerful than you would think ,, it will run a sherman as if it was made for it
good old ,low oil presure detroit deisel..4 psi now thats low !!

we just finished a 1958 m60a1 ? i think its an m48a6 but there you go it was a lot of work but the good old continental V12 air cooled engine ran ok after some tikeling
next one is a 1944 chafee
ill take pics of the re-build
remember we do this in our spare time the US army only pays for the spare parts
but i love it
cheers ian
we have complete acces to the 40 level shop so we have laiths and millers
we make our own adapter plates and shafts
we can make most anything
it just takes some knowlage and imagination
the old ..what if we try this ,, what about that bit
cheers again ian
you've got to hand it to the the yanks, they do make some nice kit and they're even good enough to spare a thought for the poor guy that's got to work on it aswell.
i'm looking forward to seeing the ww2 tank restorations as i've got a few of my own on the go, i don't suppose you fella's could spare some time to come and work on mine
all the best

ive not gone on with this thread becouse we are in termoil
DOD cuts are hurting us bad
we cannot any more use engines and gearboxes for fun on ww2 vehicles
the restrictions are harsh but understantable
i will post more pics of what we can do
but ww2 vehicle re builds are now a BIG no no SORRY guys its well above my pay grade
any part we use over 100 dolars has to be autherised
YES it is that bad
we are sfuffed
allso we are now up to 385 vehicles on low use and only 7 mechanics
and we are working 72 hour weaks
cheers ian
PS but the money is good ! ! ! helps towards my retirement fund LOL
ian
if you guys are suffering with cut backs i'm willing to help out with the amount of vehicles you have to work on so any shermans you don't need or can't afford to work on just send them my way and i'll take them off your hands no need to thank me i'm just trying to do my bit for the team.
