Hi,
This is Tamiya's 1/48th scale Marder 3 in Afrika Korps colours of a light sand yellow sprayed over the original Panzer grey the various markings applied onto the panzer grey were masked off before the sand yellow was sprayed on just as was done to the real thing when they were shipped to Africa, this model in 1/48 scale is around 11cm in length including the gun. The Marder 3 was developed in April 1942 as a stop gap solution to countering the Soviet T34's and KV 1's and was basically a Czech Skoda 38t tank adapted to mount a captured Soviet 76.2mm field gun upgraded by the Germans, these guns had been captured in large numbers during the early part of the Russian campaign. I have added some extra details that are not provided in the kit but nothing major and concentrated mainly on the weathering to try to portray a worn dusty vehicle exposed to the hot desert climate and to show how the often field applied desert yellow paint would wear away through use and the desert weather to reveal the panzer grey beneath. I intend to use this model in a Africa campaign diorama alongside a kubelwagen with crew for the Marder and an inspecting officer plus driver for the Kubelwagen with some scenery but that will be a future project.
Cheers, Andy.
