Could this badge be a wartime recast made in Exile?

Hi Filip,

I’m inclined towards this being a modern copy. The £5 price tag may be hinting at that. However, one cannot conclusively rule out the possibility that this is a period cast copy. Field-production of badges and other metal insignia using this technique was done to meet demand. Although, it would be the first such example of a pre-WW2 wz.19 pattern hat eagle that I’ve seen.

Cast hat eagles were predominantly those produced in the Middle & Near East using the wz.39 eagle pattern introduced in France during the short period between the end of the Polish campaign in October ’39 and France’s fall the following spring. There are plenty of examples posted here:

To me, the casting is too good to be wartime.
